MYMALA
SOUL RYEDERS® MALA: Rose Quartz: referred to as "The Love Stone", it symbolizes peace, compassion, healing and comfort. Rhodonite: known to have a calming effect, it also promotes inner growth and acceptance. I designed this mala for a workshop and fundraiser for SOUL RYDERS, a charity for cancer patients, families and caregivers.

Integral to several eastern religions, a mantra meditation is done with a string of prayer beads called a Mala. In Sanskrit mala means garland or impurity. Each part of the Mala, has multiple meanings. A Mala is made of: 108 beads - to keep count of the number of times a mantra is chanted; a Guru bead - signifying the beginning and ending point; a Tassel - representing our connection to the divine and to each other; Marker beads, can also be incorporated to help "mark" ones mantra progress (always placed by division of nine). Malas can be made with fewer beads in denominations of 9 such as 18, 27 and 54. A Mala with 27 beads is used for attaining spiritual progress, while a Mala with 108 beads is used to achieve fulfillment. The number,108, has various spiritual attributes. Some say that 108 energy lines converge to form anahata, the heart chakra, or in Buddhism that there are 108 afflictions, or mental states.
